Hello All,
Well today was a fantastic week. We had a baptism of a lady named Maria. We had a recent member of 4 months baptize her. He's totally fiel and is planning on serving a mission next year.
Other than that, the work progresses, the language progresses, and every day I want to share the gospel with people more and more.
There's a story I'd like to share that I didn't even know existed in First Kings in the Bible. The reading is 1 Kings 18:21-39, where Elias challenges the prophets of Baal to a competition of power between the Gods. They both make a wood pile, and both pray to their god to start it on fire. The prophets of Baal work at for a couple of days and nothing happens. They get to the point they are offering blood sacrifices and stuff, you'll have to read it, it's pretty funny. Then it's Elias' turn. He soaks the wood in water three times, prays and immediately the firewood and offering is consumed.
Something I learned from this is that we can't worship things of the world. If we worship things of the world, then in the life to come, we won't have gained anything from this life and we'll be spiritually unprepared. However, if we follow Christ and share the Gospel we are laying up in store things in Heaven that will bring us to Salvation and will never perish. (D&C 4)
We need to constantly be bettering ourselves in our lives, and sure, the things of the world are enticing and are fun to do, but I believe the goal of this life is to overcome our bodies, and let our souls take control, "for the natural man is an enemy to God, and has been since Adam." That's also why I've been fasting a lot while I've been here, and why I believe fasting is important to do, because we're showing our body who is boss.
Well, that's all the time I have for this week. Hope everyone has a great week!
